When Porter County officials needed to replace their outdated shelter, they partnered with Facet Architecture to design a modern, expanded facility that better serves animals, staff, and the community. The new 16,000-square-foot Porter County Animal Shelter increases capacity to house 120 dogs and 120 cats while creating a more functional and welcoming adoption environment.
The facility includes separate housing areas for large and small dogs with direct access to outdoor runs, as well as spacious cat rooms designed to allow social interaction without confinement to cages. A sophisticated air exchange system refreshes interior air up to ten times per hour, improving animal health and staff working conditions. Bright colors, open spaces, and thoughtful finishes create a calm, inviting atmosphere that supports successful adoptions and modern animal care operations.
