Porter County officials decided to build a new animal shelter to replace the existing facility that was too small and outdated. The new, 16,000 square foot facility is four times the size of the previous facility and offers capacity for 120 dogs and 120 cats. The shelter includes separate areas for large and small dogs with access to outside runs. Spacious cat rooms allow the cats to live together without being confined to cages. The facility features a sophisticated air exchange system that changes out the interior air 10 times per hour. The large spaces, bright colors, and playful finishes give the facility a relaxed, friendly atmosphere for prospective pet owners.
